During the expedition, you could follow my route via Spotfinder. This service has now been archived, but the maps below give a fairly accurate representation of my route across the desert.
The total distance travelled over the 35 days was just under 700kms.
Camels are the ultimate desert vehicle, as you can walk almost anywhere and crossing the parallel dunes is not a problem for them.
There are a couple of 4WD tracks across the desert but my route does not follow any tracks except for the first 35kms or so as I leave Andado Station on the western fringe, and the last 35kms when I get close to Birdsville.
I’ll visit the following places during my exploration of the great dune field –
- Geosurveys Hill
- The Geographical Centre of the desert
- Poeppel Corner – where the state borders of Queensland, South Australia and the Northern Territory meet.
